Visually-impaired man gets ATM card after six months of wait

A visually impaired person was finally issued ATM card after six months of wait as Reserve Bank of India intervened into his case and directed the local branch of a state bank to provide him with the cash card.

Rakesh Gautam, resident of Talwandi area of Kota, got his ATM card yesterday after filing a complaint with RBI six months back.

Gautam had first applied for the ATM card with his account at Bank of Baroda at Jhalawar. The bank officials, however, refused to issue the card citing his disabilty, saying he could not use it on his own.

Following which, Gautam filed a complaint with RBI that he can use the ATM card with the help of his friends and relatives.

"I am very happy to get my ATM card and my efforts have yielded successful result. I can use it with the help of my kin and well wishers.

Also soon audio ATM machines will be available in near future, then I will be able to use it with an ear phone, he said.
