A fun ride on a go-kart at an amusement park in Pinjore, near here, turned tragic for the family of a 28-year-old woman, who died after her hair got stuck in the chain of the racing machine and then swirled around its rear wheel.
As the victim's hair got stuck, she was pulled backwards with a jerk. The entire hair on her head got pulled out within seconds along with part of the scalp. The family and onlookers were shocked as they witnessed the freak incident on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased, Puneet Kaur, was rushed to the general hospital in Sector 6 Panchkula, where she was declared brought dead. A case of causing death due to negligence has been registered against Sushil Malik, the contractor of the amusement park Aqua village, the police said on Thursday.
Punjab's Bathinda residents, Puneet and her husband Amandeep Singh, along with some of their overseas relatives had travelled this far for a fun-studded outing for the day. The husband-wife duo decide to go-kart on the tracks after handing over their two-year-old son to their relatives. Singh was on the driver's seat as his wife sat alongside. Both wore the safety helmet.
Puneet had long hair that was not tied with a band before she got seated to enjoy the ride. Her husband said Puneet's helmet fell off as there was no buckle to lock it for safety. He said his wife pulled backwards in an attempt to grab the falling helmet, which is when her hair got entangled in the chain of the left rear wheel.

According to doctors, the backward jerk may have caused the victim's neck to break, which could have led to brain haemorrhage and death. Lack of safety procedures and adequate safety equipment at the park has raised serious concerns. Sources said the authorities are likely to suspend the contractor of the leased out amusement park, which is adjoining the famous Yadavindra gardens in Pinjore in Haryana, near here.
