Amid tensions of the recent riots still brewing in Trilokpuri, most women and children were forced to stay indoors during Muharram on Tuesday.
“Most women are worried of communal tension and decided to stay in their home. They have also prevented their children from going out during the procession,” said Sakina Baig, who lives in block 27 of Trilokpuri.
While talking to the Deccan Herald, residents of the area admitted that this time the procession was only a formality. Residents have avoided coming out and after the clashes, people mainly are trying to escape from any gathering.
“We are praying for a peaceful conclusion of Muharram. We have requested our family members to stay indoors. We don’t know if anything wrong could happen during the procession,” told Sufi Ansar Mian.
“Earlier, the area have been witnessing huge crowd during the procession. This time, residents are worried about come out. They have still not recovered from the trauma of the conflict,” said Parvez Mian, who is working for peace in the area and also a member of the Aman committee.
“Previously, people used to open shops in the locality to sell sweets and other stuff. But this time due to communal tension, they were not allowed to open shops,” Mian added.
Procession commenced from Block 27 around 2 pm and peacefully reached Karbala half a kilometre away around 4 pm.
Heavy security deployment was made to ensure peace. Police took the help of a drone to keep an eye on the area.
