Vying for a larger share in the Indian smartphone market, company officials of Alcatel onetouch on Thursday, said that the company hopes to achieve sales target of 5 lakh units by the year-end, on the sidelines of the launch of its new series of smartphones, Hero and Idol.

Emphasising the significance of the market in the southern and western part of the country, Country Manger APAC, India Business Unit, Steven Zhao said, “The company will release the two series in all cities across the country, however, for phase one we will concentrate on ten major cities in the south and west regions of the country as these regions are high value markets for smartphones and we hope to translate the demand and achieve our target of 5 lakh units.”

The Hero and Idol series, which range from Rs 10,000 to Rs 30,000 have been released in the Indian market with the “Jellybean” operating system (Android 4.2).
