Major Indian auto makers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Hero MotoCorp reported growth in their monthly sales for June, amid tough market conditions.
However, some other companies such as Bajaj Auto, General Motors, Ford India, Honda Siel Cars and Tata Motors saw their domestic sales decline during the month.
Maruti Suzuki recorded domestic sales of 83,531 units in June this year compared to 70,020 units in the year-ago period, registering a rise of 19.30 per cent.
Hyundai Motor India’s domestic sales increased marginally to 30,450 units from 30,402 units in June 2011.
Homegrown auto major Mahindra & Mahindra’s domestic sales stood at 38,951 units during the month against 33,772 units in June 2011, up 15.34 per cent.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor reported a 22.15 per cent increase in car sales at 14,700 units during June, 2012, as against 12,034 units in June last year.
Nissan Motor India said its sales for last month increased by over two-fold at 4,167 units. It had witnessed sales of 1,632 units in the corresponding period last year.
Skoda Auto’s sales in June climbed by 88.62 per cent to 4,923 units as against 2,610 units in the same period of 2011.
Tata Motors’ passenger vehicles sales for June were lower by 21.60 per cent to 17,244 units against 21,994 units sold in the same month last year.
The demand slump in car market continues to worry other carmakers as well. General Motors India posted 10.65 per cent decline in its sales at 7,364 units in June. It had sold 8,242 units in the same month of 2011. Ford Indias domestic sales declined by 10.91 per cent to 6,257 units in the reporting month from 7,023 units in the same month last year.
Honda Siel Cars India saw its sales falling by 22.81 per cent to 2,667 units from 3,455 units in June 2011. Volkswagen posted a marginal decline in its sales in India at 5,371 units for June as against 5,397 units in the corresponding period last year.
