Café Mojo Pub & Bistro, part of the Goa-based Rs 150-crore Shiv Samarth Group, has evinced plans to expand its footprint in India and abroad, with 30 outlets over the next three years.
Sharing the brand’s strategy with DH, Mojo Hospitality Chief Executive Officer Samarth Kholkar said, “We are looking at not just expanding in tier I cities, but also looking at tier II cities. We will follow organic, as well as inorganic expansion through the franchise route.”
It was in 2011 when the first Café Mojo opened in Goa, and subsequently went on to open in Mangaluru and Mumbai. And most recently, the fourth one – a 6,000 sq feet English-style pub and bistro, targeting various customer segments (professionals, youngsters, etc) -- opened in Bengaluru, this week.
“Further, we are targeting cities like Hyderabad, Pune and Delhi-NCR in the next 12 months, and will also increase our base in cities such as Mumbai and Bengaluru. In terms of international expansion, we are eyeing Dubai and Singapore,” Kholkar said, adding that investment for an outlet would be upwards of Rs 2 crore.
Café Mojo differentiates itself by offering a more traditional pub experience, integrating several Goan aspects in terms of food, music, and hospitality. It claims to be the first eBeer pub in India, where one can pour one’s own beer, and pay by the ml and not by glass. Today, 30% of Café Mojo’s menu is Goan fare, while the remaining caters to typical pub food.
“While a lot of pubs in India today have become very experimental, involving fusion elements in their offerings, we prefer being more classic. Café Mojo is looking to bring back the authentic pub culture, especially in terms of food & beverage, décor, and music,” Kholkar said.
