Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal has publicly apologised for the extra fees that was being charged on vegetarian food delivery orders.

Goyal's apology came after a social media user complained in a post on LinkedIn about having to pay extra for vegetarian meals while ordering food from the food delivering app.

The post in which the bill of a Zomato order showing an extra charge of Rs 2 under 'veg mode enablement fee' was shared, read, "Being a vegetarian in India these days feels like curse! Zomato’s latest masterstroke - introducing an "extra charge" for the veg enablement fleet - has officially turned us into a premium subscription plan. So, fellow herbivores, brace yourselves! We’ve gone from "green and healthy" to "green and pricey". Thanks, Zomato, for proving once again that being veg is now a luxury tax! Zomato, Deepinder Goyal hashtag#herbivores hashtag#luxurytax hashtag#vegetraiantax hashtag#curse Thanks Swiggy for treating us equally."

Zomato CEO replied to the post and apologised, assuring that 'this charge will be removed'.

Goyal wrote, "This is absolutely stupid on our part. I am super sorry for this. This charge will be removed today itself. Will also fix what’s needed to fix in the team so that such s**t doesn’t happen again. Thank you for pointing this out."

Accepting Goyal's apology, the individual praised the decision of bringing the 'vegetarian concept' and called it a bold and conventional move.

He replied, "Thank you once again to stepping in and saving us! What truly surprised me during this journey was successfully driving this idea from the ideation phase to execution while also securing senior stakeholder approval. Bringing a vegetarian cruising concept in India was undoubtedly a bold and unconventional move."

The post garnered a flurry of comments. A social media user commented, "Someone at Zomato got an earful."

Another user replied, "Looks Like Zomato is learning from 'Someone' to tax everything."

"The biggest lie Zomato said increasing the platform fee to Rs 10 from Rs 4 saying festive demand during diwali but zomato's festivities didn't end yet," a comment read.
