In a bid to get its employees back into the office campus, Infosys has issued a mandate for its technology workforce to come to the office for ten days in a month.
As per a report in the Economic Times, the company circulated an email telling its employees that they would have to limit the number of work-from-home days from March 10 onwards.
“To support this, starting March 10, 2025, system interventions will be implemented to limit the number of work-from-home days that can be applied each month. These measures are designed to ensure compliance with the new hybrid work requirements while maintaining flexibility for employees,” the publication quoted the email as saying.
The Bengaluru-based company, which has 3,23,000 employees on its roster, has planned this "system intervention" to ensure collaboration among teammates.
The new rule applies to all the employees that are at job level 5 (JL5) and below. While team leaders are in the JL5 category, managers, senior managers, delivery managers, and senior delivery managers fall under the JL6 and above bracket.
Once the new rule is implemented, the mobile apps through which employees record their attendance will not approve any WFH requests by "default". There will be a pre-requisite to punch in 10 days a month at the office base.
Meanwhile, employees told the publication that the flexibility in working locations helped them save commute time and prevent exhaustion, as they added that this step could reduce efficiency of workers.
To ensure employees adhere to the new rules, the company has said that in case someone falls short by a day or two to meet their work-from-office target, their leave balance will be impacted.
As employees of Infosys are approaching the change in rules with skepticism, this mandate has brought the company in the spotlight yet again. Earlier, Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy had pitched for a 70-hour work week, and had batted for a 6-day work week, attracting much criticism.
