“Hardening of raw material prices globally might as well inflate its cost of production in Europe by close to $150 per tonne and affect its operating margins in 2010-11,” he said. He said that if coal and iron ore prices go up by 80 to 90 per cent, additional cost pressure will be between $120 and $150 per tonne provided the entire requirement is outsourced by a steel company.
