The US automobile giant Ford Motor unveiled its new small concept Sedan — Ford Figo Aspire — at the function to mark the inauguration of its Sanand Vehicle facility, near Ahmedabad.
Ford President and CEO Mark Fields said that Ford plans to begin commercial production of its latest sub-four metre compact sedan from Sanand unit in the second half of this year.
Though none of the Ford leadership was willing to reveal the price, market watchers believe that it could be priced in the range of Rs 5.0 lakh to Rs 7.5 lakh.
Meanwhile, the Sanand plant is stated as one of the most automated facilities among the Ford’s other facilities globally. Set up in a span of four years, the Sanand unit has 95 per cent automation in body shop division, with 437 robots performing assembly operations in the plant.
Set up at the cost of $1 billion, the facility will have an initial installed annual capacity of 240,000 vehicles and 270,000 engines. The plant will employ 2,500 people while it will generate employment of more than 7,500 through ancillary units. So far, 19 vendors have already set up their shops in the vendor park.
