New Delhi: India has so far purchased 25.6 million metric tons of new season wheat from domestic farmers, up from 20.5 million tons during the same period last year, India's food secretary said on Thursday.

The government is hopeful that it will be able to meet its wheat procurement target of 31.2 million tons, Sanjeev Chopra told a news conference.
