Mobile handset-maker Intex Technologies is keen on entering the affordable smartphone segment in India.

“We are in talks with the government for manufacturing affordable smartphones in the country. However, the company has not decided on a timeline on when to start,” Intex Director Keshav Bansal told DH.

When asked whether the company could be looking at smartphones below Rs 2,000, Bansal said, “It may be below Rs 2,000, but we have not finalised anything yet.” The company had announced that it will be investing Rs 2,000 crore towards setting up a new facility at Noida.

Intex, which recently bought the Gujarat franchise of Super Fight League and already owns the Gujarat franchise in the Indian Premier League, is keen on more investments in sports.

“We see good scope to expand digitally in sports in India, and that is why we have invested in the franchises. This financial year, we have invested Rs 200 crore in sports,” Bansal said.

“The company had evaluated various other investments in sports as well, including Premier Futsal and Indian Super League, but as of now we have our hands full,” Bansal added.
