Mumbai: The upcoming steel plant of the JSW Group in the Gadchiroli district - involving an investment of Rs one lakh crore - would be the biggest steel plant complex in the world.
The Centre and Maharashtra government is transforming the once Naxalite-affected district as a Steel City on the lines of Jamshedpur.
“The steel plant in Gadchiroli will be the largest in the world, most beautiful, and most environmentally friendly,” JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal said on Friday.
It may be mentioned, during the World Economic Forum in Davos, the JSW Group signed an MoU of whopping Rs 3 lakh crore covering sectors such as steel, renewable energy, infrastructure, cement, lithium-ion batteries, solar, and cell modules.
Jindal’s statement came in presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari at the inauguration of 'Advantage Vidarbha 2025 : Khasdar Audyogik Mahotsav’ in Nagpur.
The Centre and the Maharashtra government is giving a major push to the industrialisation in the tribal district of Gadchiroli, which was once affected by Naxalism.
In fact, Fadnavis spent his New Year Day in Gadchiroli district, during which he launched several projects and said - “Naxalism is nearing its end in Maharashtra”.
The move of Fadnavis has earned praise not only from Prime Minister Narendra Modi but also leaders of opposition parties like Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar-headed NCP (SP).
