The company, which is the exclusive licensee of Jockey International, recorded sales of Rs 119.70 crorein the quarter, as against Rs 79.4 crore, a growth of 51 per cent. The company attributed the spurt in profits to a renewed focus on large format stores nationwide which have witnessed sales spiralling 80 per cent in the June quarter. Of the three categories of men’s innerware, women’s innerware and leisure ware, the last one has seen maximum growth — nearly 60 per cent in terms of value.
Commenting on the company’s performance, Page Industries Managing Director Sunder Genomal said, “Jockey has grown to become a highly respected luxury brand not just in innerware but in leisurewear. ” He added that in the future the company plans to target the youth and make Jockey a lifestyle brand, rather than only innerware. The highlight of the quarter was renewal of the license of Page Industries Ltd up to 2030 by Jockey International. The renewed license agreement includes the exclusive licensee rights for UAE in addition to existing markets of India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh.
Jockey International President, International Division Timothy Wheeler said, “Page is becoming a bigger part of our worldwide Jockey business.” He added that the there was huge potential in India as the market for men’s innerware was Rs 4,000 crore and women’s innerware was Rs 6,500 crore.
The company currently has a capacity of 80 million pieces of garments per annum, in four manufacturing units located in Bangalore. It plans to increase this capacity in the future, based on projected growth, but did not divulge figures.
