Spread across seven acres, the studios have a total built up area of 20,000 square feet and comprises eight sound stages.
"Built over a period of two years, the first phase of three sound stages is operational from January 2011 and the second phase comprising five sound stages will be operational by mid 2011," the company said in a statement without disclosing the investment details of the project.
Reliance MediaWorks, a part of Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) said that the total capacity of RMW Studios equals to 25 per cent of Mumbai's studio market.
"The Studios will be comprehensive resource for feature films, television, commercials, music videos, gaming, special effects and special events," the statement said.
According to the company, RMW Studios have been built as per Hollywood compliant design specifications by Los Angeles based Wylie Carter & Associates.
