As such, Rolls Royce —— which is now part of German carmaker BMW —— also lowered the threshold for owning a Rolls Royce, considering the fact that ‘Ghost’ will be cheaper by around a crore to the ‘Phantom’ range which comes with a tag of Rs 3.5 crore. The company sold as many as 18 Phantom cars in India.
The company hopes to sell around 60 Rolls Royce in 2010. “Ghost is a more informal design that broadens the appeal of Rolls-Royce, combining refinement, new technology, contemporary style. It bears all the hallmarks of other Rolls-Royce cars, using the finest wood and leather materials and employing manufacturing standards which are no different to Phantom. Ghost will be built-to-order,” said Regional Director for Asia Pacific region Colin Kelly .
The Ghost drive-train comprises a 6.6 litre twin-turbo charged V12 engine and a new 8-speed automatic gearbox and it delivers a peak power output of 563bhp at 5250rpm, racing from 0-100kmph in 4.9 seconds.
Luxury and super-luxury car market in India is estimated to be order of 10,000 plus.
