New Delhi: Sanjay Malhotra, who assumed charge as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor last week, chaired his first board meeting of the central bank on Friday.

“The Board reviewed the global and domestic economic situation and outlook, and discussed the activities of select Central Office Departments as well as the draft Report on Trend and Progress of Banking in India, 2023-24,” the RBI said in a statement.

The Board placed on record its appreciation of the valuable services rendered by Shaktikanta Das during his tenure as Governor of the Bank, it added. 

A 1990 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Rajasthan cadre, Malhotra assumed charge as the RBI governor on December 11. He succeeded Das who is also a career bureaucrat.  

Deputy Governors Michael Debabrata Patra, M Rajeshwar Rao, T. Rabi Sankar, Swaminathan J. and other directors of the central board Satish K. Marathe, Revathy Iyer, Sachin Chaturvedi, Venu Srinivasan and Ravindra H. Dholakia attended the meeting held in Guwahati.

Nagaraju Maddirala, Secretary, Department of Financial Services, also attended the meeting, the RBI said.
