It is also chalking out strategies to harness the abundance of entrepreneurial talent in the country to achieve desired growth in manfuacturing.
The Centre, busy holding talks with industry associations, concerned ministeries, and state governments, in this regard, is believed to be chalking out strategies to aggressively promote sector specific clusters and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) for spreading industrial growth more widely.
Among sectors being given special thrust are textiles & garments, leather & footwear, gems & jewellery, and food processing industries, where the Centre hopes to create and open up larger employment opportunities.
Competitive advantage
Likewise, to buttress competitive advantage, it is specifically targetting MSMEs for catalysing innovation, employment and enterprise generation.
Observing that agriculture will no longer absorb more workers, but, on the other hand, release some of its existing surplus workforce into job market, the Centre, as part of its approach to 12th Five Year Plan, plans to goad respective state governments to incentivise clusters’ development so that growth is not only faster but inclusive and sustainable.
Stating that additional growth will have to come from MSME sector, which, however, continues to face plethora of hurdles in realising its true potential, the Centre, is also holding discussions and exploring avenues to improve busines environment and reduce cost of doing business.
Further, to achieve greater domestic value addition and technological depth of the Indian industry to cater to growing domestic demand, the Centre is planning to create conducive environment for nurturing enterprise, improving markets, supporting innovation, and provide easy access to finance.
