Shell India on Wednesday inaugurated its IT centre with 900 engineers in Bengaluru and plans to ramp it up 1000 to make the largest centre by the end of this year.

Interacting with reporters, Shell Chief Information Officer Jay Crotts said the technology centre plays an important role as IT has got a major role in business with the onset  of digitisation, mobile and cloud computing.

“My focus is to bring business values from the IT projects we execute. So IT innovation brings new business opportunities and results. This drives me to come to India where we have an ocean of talent,” he said.

Crotts said Bengaluru centre is the fourth global IT centre besides other three located in Huston, Hague and London. The centre started its operation in 2014. It has the capacity to accommodate 2,300 seats and can expand further as per the requirement.

“Right now we hired only experienced hands and will look for hiring fresh talents next year onwards. We want to take it to around 3,000 within a three-year period. The centre will look at IT project delivery operation, cloud centre delivery, innovation with new technology covering wide area,” he said, adding that the talent pool here should have intersection of two skills.
