In a bid towards creating a cleaner environment, Volvo Auto India has announced the launch of the country’s first plug-in hybrid SUV — XC90 T8.
Claimed to be the world’s cleanest seven-seater SUV, the XC90 T8 delivers 49 gram per kilometre (g/km) carbon dioxide, backed with an electric range of up to 40 km.
The car offers three distinct driving modes — Pure, Hybrid and Power – and is built on Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), with the 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, which can be both supercharged, and turbocharged.
“The XC90 T8 Excellence sets industry benchmarks for environment-friendly efficiency and emissions, while enveloping customers in first-class Swedish luxury.
It is not only a segment-first, but India’s first plug-in hybrid SUV, and we see a lot of interest from our more affluent customers, who prefer to experience ‘responsible’ luxury,” Volvo Auto India Managing Director Tom von Bonsdorff said.
Emphasising on the technology used in the developing the car, Volvo Cars (Global) Director (Sales and Marketing and PR — Special Cars) Stephan Green said, “It’s not about the good exteriors of the car, but about safe and clean interiors.”
With the new SUV, the company has also introduced its radar-based safety features in India. The car is equipped with 360° radar, and inputs from the camera activate an array of pre-emptive safety functions.
Priced at Rs 1.25 crore (Ex-showroom, Delhi), the SUV is available in six different colours. Other prominent features of the Volvo XC90 T8 include a panoramic sunroof, air suspension for all four wheels, perforated heating/cooling, and massage functions in all seats, apart from tyres with noise cancellation technology, among others.
