MetLife, once the second-largest writer of long-term care policies, said it will stop individual coverage sales from December 30 and new enrollments into group plans next year.

The company said it plans to look for ways to combine long-term care with other products in the future.

Long-term care insurance helps cover costs for things like nursing homes, assisted living facilities, injured or disabled and cannot perform basic daily tasks. But the product has failed to spark much interest.
