In his letter to Pradhan, the JD (S) leader stated that teaching the Bhagavad Gita is essential to strengthening the emphasis on value-based education.

Pointing out that the National Education Policy (NEP) lays strong emphasis on value-based education, Kumaraswamy said "Introducing selected teachings from the Gita will help instill moral strength, clarity of thought, and character formation among students. Such an approach would strengthen India’s demographic dividend and inspire young people to excel globally."

Kumaraswamy urged the Education Minister to issue appropriate directions concerned officials to meaningfully integrate the timeless values of the Bhagavad Gita into the learning framework of students across the country.

Sanatana Dharma upholds the universal ideal of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. The Bhagavad Gita, in which Lord Krishna imparted supreme knowledge to Arjuna, underscores the significance of Nishkama Karma, selfless action, alongside integrity and dedication in fulfilling one’s duties. These values, he stressed, hold profound relevance in today’s global context, he said.

Kumaraswamy also noted in his letter that during his recent visit to the Udupi Sri Krishna Matha, the Prime Minister participated in a Gita recitation programme, where he highlighted the core principles of Hindu Dharma, emphasised the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, and reiterated the timeless values enshrined in the sacred scripture.

The Minister further stated that he too had the privilege of attending a Gita recitation event in Shivamogga. He described it as an inspiring experience that offered an opportunity to recite the Gita and connect with the profound spiritual power and devotion associated with it. During the event, several local leaders and parents expressed their desire to see the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita incorporated into the school curriculum, an appeal he has brought to the attention of the Education Minister.

Separately Kumaraswamy congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for presenting the Gita to President Putin. He expressed that the Prime Minister’s gesture of gifting the sacred scripture is highly commendable.
