Alleging that the media coverage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to Kedarnath is a violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) Congress’ Rajya Sabha MP Pradip Bhattacharya on Sunday urged the Election Commission (EC) to stop the telecast.
Bhattacharya, in a letter to the EC on Sunday, said that the media coverage will influence the voters and hence should be stopped immediately.
“It is noted with surprise that on May 19, 2019, on the eve and during the seventh phase polling throughout India in 59 Parliamentary constituencies, the Prime Minister is on a religious visit to Kedarnath and Badrinath and the same is being telecast on all news channels. You will appreciate this sways the voter’s mind and it is requested that this should be stopped forthwith,” state Bhattacharya in his letter to EC.
He further alleged that the way the Prime Minister ensured media coverage of his trip was “totally unethical” and said that it was a means of influencing voters.
“The was he has ensured that every minute detail of his trip is covered by the media is totally unethical and a violation of the MCC. It is nothing but a ploy to directly or indirectly influence voters. It is totally wrong,” said Bhattacharya.
Earlier the Trinamool Congress (TMC) had also complained to EC regarding the media coverage of Prime Minister’s trip to Uttarakhand, alleging that his address to the media at the Kedarnath shrine was unethical.
