The Congress on Monday moved the Election Commission demanding suspension of Content TV contending that it has been broadcasting political campaign of one candidate — Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Congress leaders also wanted the commission to pass strictures against the prime minister and the BJP for using government-owned news channels for their election campaign after Doordarshan gave extensive coverage to Modi's 'Main Bhi Chowkidar' event on Sunday.

“This channel (Content TV/NaMo TV) undermines the fundamental task which falls to the commission: to ensure a level playing field for all candidates. Do all individuals have the resources to launch channels indulging in blatant campaigning,” the Congress said in a petition.

The party contended that the commission cannot allow influential individuals to abuse their position by launching such channels and then pretending to have nothing to do with the same.

Content TV, also known as NaMo TV, had carried live coverage of Modi's 'Main Bhi Chowkidar' interaction on Sunday and has been telecasting interviews of BJP leaders, the Congress claimed.

The Congress also objected to the live coverage of the 'Main Bhi Chowkidar' event by DD News — both on its news channel as well as on YouTube besides promoting it on social media handles.
