New Delhi: New Delhi: With less than a week left for the Delhi assembly polls, the seven Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs who were denied tickets resigned from the party on Friday.
"I hereby resign from the primary membership of the Aam Aadmi Party as I have lost faith in you," Madan Lal, the MLA from Kasturba Nagar, wrote to AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal.
Lal also resigned from the state assembly and posted his resignation letters on the micro-blogging site X.
The MLAs who have quit the party were said to be upset about being dropped. The other lawmakers who put their papers include Bhavna Gaur (Palam), Naresh Yadav (Mehrauli), Rohit Mehraulia (Trilokpuri), and Pawan Sharma (Adarsh Nagar).
Sharma in his resignation said AAP has gone astray from its founding ideals of public probity and honesty. Mehraulia accused the AAP convenor of ignoring issues related to the welfare of sanitation workers.
Elections to the 70-member Delhi Assembly will be held on February 5 and the votes counted on February 8.
Delhi Assembly Election 2025 | The first of two state assembly polls this year sees a three-way contest between AAP, Congress, and BJP in the nation's capital. AAP decided to contest the polls alone, causing rumours of a rift in I.N.D.I.A. BJP, meanwhile, is hoping the liquor excise policy scam and pollution in Delhi will give the saffron party an edge over AAP. Kejriwal, on the other hand, has different plans with his demand for reservations for Delhi Jats. Congress will also be looking to make its presence felt and has not held back from attacking its own alliance partner.
