New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Sunday launched a crowdfunding campaign to gather money for her electoral campaign in Kalkaji, saying it is not a difficult task for a person in her post to collect Rs 40 lakh needed for fighting polls through “wrong ways” but she and AAP do not believe in such a path.

She said AAP has fought the elections since its inception with the “small contributions” given by common people and do not use the route of big businessmen or contractors, as it would not allow them to work for the welfare of Delhiites.

Launching the website atishi.aamaadmiparty.org for collecting Rs 40 lakh, the upper limit allowed by the Election Commission for campaigning in Delhi, she said, “if we take money from private schools or private hospitals, we would not be able to control fees or take steps to improve government hospitals.”

“In the previous polls, we fought with the small contributions given by Delhiites…It is easy for a Chief Minister to collect Rs 40 lakh through wrong ways. It won’t even take 24 hours. I inaugurated two flyovers of over Rs three crore and over 100 school buildings in recent times. If we took bribes, these flyovers would not be in usable condition in one month,” she said.

On BJP asking why AAP needs money when mired in corruption like excise policy scam, Atishi said BJP might have used power to collect money and fight elections. “They may need money now for elections as they have collected it already. We practice honest politics.”
