New Delhi: From 'AAP-DA' to 'Bharath Jhoota Party' and 'Farziwal', senior leaders are adding new taglines and slogans to the campaign vocabulary as Delhi Assembly elections are entering the last phase with parties making changing gears.
If the AAP supremo called the BJP 'Gali Galoch Party' (Abusive Party), especially after BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri's sexist remarks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi played on the Hindi word for disaster describing AAP as 'AAP-DA'.
Modi's remark at a rally before the elections were announced became a key word for BJP leaders hitting the campaign trail in Delhi, alleging that the capital had to face 'AAP-DA' (disaster) for the past ten years and it was time to come out of it. In counter, AAP leaders are calling the BJP 'Bharatiya Jhoota Party', alleging that it makes false promises.
From BJP chief J P Nadda to Home Minister Amit Shah, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and all candidates, 'AAP-DA' has become a talking point. Adding a new description, Shah calls AAP 'Awaidh Aamdaniwala Party' (Illegal Income Party).
Not to be left behind, senior Congress Ajay Maken called Kejriwal a 'Farziwal' (fake) while several AAP leaders are describing BJP also as 'Bharatiya Jhoota Party' (Bharatiya Liars Party).
With the AAP embroiled in liquor scam, Congress Media and Publicity Department chairman Pawan Khera was quick to dub AAP as 'Alcohol Affected Party'. Congress also calls Kejriwal 'Chhota Recharge' of Modi to suggest that AAP adopts policies of the Prime Minister.
Kejriwal's opponents are also calling him 'Ghoshna Mantri' (Minister for announcements), as he makes announcements of new promises on a daily basis. Kejriwal also faced 'Chunavi Hindu' jibe from the BJP after he wrongly suggested that Ravana came in the form of a deer to abduct Sita in Ramayana while it was 'Maricha' who had disguised as a deer to divert attention of Lord Rama.
AAP then called BJP's 'Sankalp Patra' (manifesto) as 'Vinash Patra'. Congress is holding a series of press conferences with the title 'AAP ke Paap ka Pardafash' (Exposing the Sins of AAP) to expose the alleged wrongdoings by the Kejriwal-led party. It also calls Kejriwal 'behroopia' or imposter.
Delhi Assembly Election 2025 | The first of two state assembly polls this year sees a three-way contest between AAP, Congress, and BJP in the nation's capital. AAP decided to contest the polls alone, causing rumours of a rift in I.N.D.I.A. BJP, meanwhile, is hoping the liquor excise policy scam and pollution in Delhi will give the saffron party an edge over AAP. Kejriwal, on the other hand, has different plans with his demand for reservations for Delhi Jats. Congress will also be looking to make its presence felt and has not held back from attacking its own alliance partner.
