Since Independence, Delhi has seen eight Chief Ministers take office (some with multiple terms), but not all of them were in office for long.

Sushma Swaraj, who became the first female Chief Minister of Delhi, for long held the dubious distinction of being the Chief Minister with the shortest tenure in Delhi.

After Swaraj took oath on October 12, 1998, she remained in office for a mere 52 days, resigning on December 3 the same year.

However, Swaraj's short tenure as the Delhi CM was one-upped by Arvind Kejriwal in 2014, when the AAP chief resigned on February 14 after a stint of 48 days in the top post.

The AAP chief, who had long backed the Jan Lokpal Bill, had said that he would resign if the Bill was not passed.

And that came to pass in February 2014 after he failed to table the Bill in the Delhi Assembly.

Following Kejriwal's resignation in 2014, the CM's post fell vacant, and Delhi was administered under President's Rule till February 14, 2015, when Kejriwal returned again as CM.

Delhi Assembly Election 2025 | The first of two state assembly polls this year sees a three-way contest between AAP, Congress, and BJP in the nation's capital. AAP decided to contest the polls alone, causing rumours of a rift in I.N.D.I.A. BJP, meanwhile, is hoping the liquor excise policy scam and pollution in Delhi will give the saffron party an edge over AAP. Kejriwal, on the other hand, has different plans with his demand for reservations for Delhi Jats. Congress will also be looking to make its presence felt and has not held back from attacking its own alliance partner.
