Mumbai: The Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena has decided to support the BJP in the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections, where the national saffron party is pitted against the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP and the Congress.
Shinde, who is Shiv Sena’s chief leader and Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister in the BJP-led MahaYuti-NDA government, has conveyed the decision of the party to BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda, who is the union health and family welfare minister.
In the letter, Shinde said: “The Shiv Sena under my leadership has been a torch bearer of Hindutva ideology of Balasaheb Thackeray. Following this legacy, the Shiv Sena is a member of the NDA under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
He said that the Shiv Sena would actively support all the candidates of the BJP and have directed the Delhi unit of the party to align with the BJP state unit and actively participate in the campaign.
Shiv Sena Delhi unit chief Sandeep Chaudhary also met BJP Delhi unit president Virendra Sachdeva and handed over the letter of support.
For more than three decades, the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance has stood as a powerful force in Indian politics, sharing common ideals of Hindutva and good governance.
Their recent victory in the Maharashtra state elections underscores the strength of this partnership.
“Delhi, as the nation’s capital, requires a corruption-free and efficient government,” said Shinde.
“Shiv Sena, as a loyal NDA ally, is dedicated to supporting BJP to ensure that Delhi benefits from stable and effective governance, similar to the central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Under Modi ji’s guidance, India has emerged as the world’s fifth-largest economy, and a BJP-led government in Delhi will further contribute to the vision of ‘Developed India, Developed Delhi.’”
Chaudhary echoed these sentiments, expressing confidence in BJP’s ability to drive progress and prosperity in Delhi.
Chaudhary emphasized the need for a “double-engine government” to propel Delhi’s development, citing the successes seen in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh under BJP leadership.
“Delhi deserves a government capable of restoring its prestige and addressing its critical challenges, from pollution to economic growth,” Chaudhary said. “The citizens of Delhi deserve better than the mismanagement and corruption they have endured under the AAP. By supporting BJP, Shiv Sena is prioritising the welfare and development of Delhi’s people.”
Shiv Sena’s support for BJP in the Delhi Assembly elections is aimed at securing a decisive victory for the NDA, ensuring that the capital is led by a party dedicated to integrity and progress.
