New Delhi: AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Friday claimed that a large number of voters have been deleted from the electoral rolls ahead of Delhi Assembly elections and most of them are his party supporters.

He said the BJP has filed applications with the Election Commission to delete names of hundreds of voters in various constituencies, including  Shahdara, Janakpuri, Laxmi Nagar and RK Puram among others.

He said BJP has filed 11,018 applications in Shahdara seat alone and a cross check by AAP on 500 applications seeking removal on grounds of shifting of residence or death showed that 372 of them were staying in the residences mentioned.

Kejriwal said AAP had won the seat by a little over 5,000 votes and if 11,018 names are deleted from the electoral rolls, there is no meaning for an election there.

"Most of those who face deletion from the electoral rolls are AAP supporters. Then what is the meaning of conducting elections?" he asked while pointing out that the Janakpuri seat has received over 6,200 applications while the RK Puram seat has received over 4,500 applications.

"If you want to delete 6% of voters from the existing 1.82 lakh voters of Shahdara, what is the meaning of elections," he said.

Noting that EC has to provide details of applications for deletion of names in its website, Kejriwal claimed the EC has disclosed only 487 applications for Shahdara seat.

"BJP back to its desperate and dirty tricks. The Election Commission hand in glove with BJP in this ploy against AAP. This is a threat to democracy," Kejriwal added.
