Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday hinted at a Cabinet expansion this week while senior Congress leaders, including Dinesh Gundu Rao, publicly expressed their unhappiness over being left out of the new government.
The new Cabinet was supposed to have 25-28 ministers. But only eight lawmakers were inducted on Saturday, leaving the rest miffed and disappointed.
Nine ministers, who have taken oath in Karnataka, have criminal cases against them and all are crorepatis, according to the report of the Karnataka Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
The report is based on the analysis of the self-sworn affidavits of nine out of 10 Ministers, including Siddaramaiah, the new Chief Minister of Karnataka.
The report said that it could not analyse K JGeorge's case due to the unavailability of his clear and complete affidavits on the ECI website at the time of making this report.
The report said, "Out of the nine ministers analysed, all nine ministers have declared criminal cases against themselves, while four ministers have declared serious criminal cases against them. (IANS)
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday hailed the people of Karnataka for giving a ray of hope to the entire country by defeating a "fascist, communal and divisive" BJP in the recently-concluded Assembly election.
She, however, cautioned people against the developments that happened in Delhi, saying that it was a wake-up call for everyone as it can happen anywhere in the country. (PTI)
Senior Congress leaders in Karnataka, who are being offered the Speaker's post in the new Assembly, are unwilling to take the responsibility, sources have said, adding that a fear of jinx surrounds the post.
A series of leaders who became Speakers in Karnataka have lost elections and their political careers ended. The jinx continued with the defeat of Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri, the former Speaker in the ruling BJP government. His defeat shocked the party and Kageri was distraught as the defeat had raised the question on his strengths as a strong leader.
Political experts maintain that since 2004, whoever sat on the coveted post have suffered severe setbacks in their political careers. (IANS)
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has claimed that the BJP will win the Lok Sabha polls for the third time in a row despite its poor performance in Karnataka, where the saffron party won only 66 seats.
"Though the BJP has not performed well in the Karnataka Assembly polls, but that does not mean that it will affect the party's prospects in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls," Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stated. (IANS)
Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday congratulated Congress leader Siddaramaiah on becoming the chief minister of Karnataka and D K Shivakumar the deputy chief minister.
The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister also said he hoped the new leadership would usher in a "new" Karnataka.

The five guarantees put forth by the Congress in its Karnataka election campaign were based largely on welfare measures. The wide acceptance that these promises received point to a larger problem in the Indian economy.This was evident not only in Karnataka, but also in Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal and Delhi elections.
Siddaramaiah will begin his new innings as the chief minister with an eight-member Cabinet, as hopes of starting with a full-fledged team got dashed following disagreement with his deputy D K Shivakumar on names.
