Mysuru: A 23-year-old man was trampled to death by an elephant in the Saragur taluk of Mysuru district in the limits of Bandipur Tiger Reserve on Thursday.
The incident took place at around 6 in the morning in the N Begur range of the reserve forest when the man had gone to switch on the water motor for his crops in the field. There were three elephants but only one attacked him, forest officials said.
The deceased has been identified as one Avinash, son of Huchchanayaka. The victim had suffered serious injuries to his face.
BTR Conservator of Forest Prabhakaran and B Begur RFO Manjunath rushed to the spot. After an autopsy, the body was handed over to the relatives.
CF Prabhakaran handed over a cheque of Rs 15 lakh to the relatives of the deceased.
Residents of the village have complained that human-animal conflict incidents are rising in the region and although KPTCL provides electricity there early in the morning, they should provide it during the day as well.
