Taking a break from crime thrillers, director Sri Ganesh presents a family drama, which narrates the story of the struggles a family faces while trying to realise the dream of owning a 3 BHK.
The film is inspired by the eponymous short story by engineer-turned-writer Aravindh Sachidanandam.
It is patriarch Vasudevan’s ambition to have a home of his own. He believes “a house is not just a place of residence, it is also a family’s identity, prestige and respect”.
Sri Ganesh could have taken the path less trodden and turned his film into a searing critique of the system.
Instead, he opted to make it a feel good family melodrama that will strike a chord with every viewer. He has packed his film with all possible problems and pitfalls a family could confront while trying to achieve their dream. Each of them has to surmount individual challenges and make sacrifices to fulfill the goal.
With a well written script and meaningful dialogues, Sri Ganesh presents a relatable and moving family saga that unfolds at a languid pace.
It is a convincing portrayal by the film’s ensemble cast. The seasoned Shivakumar and Devayani, earlier paired in ‘Suryavamsam’, play the role of the parents, while Siddharth plays the son.
The film’s comedic track is provided by Yogi Babu, who is cast as the real estate broker. Chaithra J Achar of Kannada film ‘Sapta Sagaradaache Ello’ plays Siddharth’s love interest. The film is also aided by a soulful background score by debutant Amrit Ramnath, the son of well-known playback singer Bombay Jayashri.
