Action ReplayyUnpleasant blast from the past

Blame the time machine. If madcap scientist Randhir Kapoor hadn’t made one, the viewers wouldn’t have had to  bear a retro overkill, where Akshay Kumar tries to be funny with his buck teeth and Aishwarya Rai parades her polka collection.

In the name of 70s, director Vipul Shah pours all the colours on the palette on his lead characters. The oranges and reds numb the eyes. And the characters do the rest of the damage.

The mayhem begins when Aditya Roy Kapoor tries to introduce an olive branch to his always-at-war parents, Akshay and Aishwarya.

The couple happens to be more unruly than their son’s curly bush of hair. The only way to declare ceasefire is go back to the past and correct the mistakes. So thinks junior, who hops onto the time machine and lands in the Bombay of 1975.

There he meets Ms Tomboy Aishwarya and her perennial prey Akshay Kumar. Sorry, a snarling Ash and cowering Akki fail to make it work.

The songs get uncorked at all unlikely moments as Action Replayy drags on. An unpleasant trip to the past.
