Singer and producer Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3, the third part of the Punjabi horror-comedy series, has sparked controversy ahead of its release. The movie is facing heat for casting a Pakistani artist.
Produced by Gunbir Singh Sidhu and Manmord Sidhu under the banners of White Hill Studios and Story Time Productions, the movie stars Pakistani actress Hania Aamir.
Amid growing calls for a boycott, the All-Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has strongly condemned the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir and has urged a boycott of singer and producer Diljit Dosanjh.
Releasing a statement, AICWA said, “Despite knowing the recent brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, in which 26 innocent Indian lives were lost at the hands of Pakistani-sponsored terrorists, Diljit Dosanjh has shockingly chosen to cast a Pakistani artist. This decision comes at a time when the entire nation - 140 crore Indians, the government, the opposition, and citizens across all walks of life - are united against Pakistan and standing in solidarity with the families of the martyred.”
"Following the Pulwama terror attack in 2019, AICWA had officially boycotted all Pakistani artists from working in India. We had warned the Indian film and music industry that any violation of this patriotic stand would face strict consequences. Diljit Dosanjh, through his actions, has disrespected the sentiments of the nation and insulted the sacrifice of our brave soldiers and civilians. His preference for Pakistani talent over Indian artists raises serious questions about his loyalty and priorities,” read the statement.
Earlier, Vani Kapoor's film Abir Gulaal was also not allowed to be released in India as the movie starred Pakistani actor Fawad Khan. The movie was scheduled to release in May 2025.
However, Diljit Dosanjh is yet to respond to the controversy. On Sunday evening, he shared the trailer of Sardaar Ji 3 on social media and announced that the film, originally set for a global release, will now release overseas only on June 27.
