Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar took to Twitter on Sunday to announce that his upcoming movie Sooryavanshi is set to hit the screens on April 30. The Rohit Shetty-directed actioner was slated to release last year but that did not happen due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The film features the 'Khiladi' in the role of a cop and has plenty of ' masala' to satisfy the masses.
It stars Katrina Kaif as the leading lady and reunites her with her De Dana Dan co-star. The cast includes Ajay Devgn, Jackie Shroff and Ranveer Singh.
Sooryavanshi is one of the most important films of the year as it may help Bollywood regain its mojo after the Covid-19 lockdown. Films such as Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari and Sir, which hit the screens when theatres were operating at 50 per cent capacity, did not do well at the box office.
The Hindi version of Kollywood star Vijay's Master and the Kiara Advani-starrer Indoo Ki Jawani too failed to make an impact at the box office. The horror-comedy Roohi, which released in theatres on March 11, has opened on a decent note despite receiving mixed reviews. The film, however, is unlikely to be a crowd puller as it lacks star power. The Salman Khan-starrer Radhe, Sooryavanshi and the sports drama 83 may prove to be Bollywood's 'saviours' under these circumstances.
Akshay, meanwhile, is going through a busy phase on the work front. He will soon be seen in the historical drama Prithviraj, which revolves around the life of the Chauhan king Rai Pithora. He also has Atrangi Re, co-starring Kollywood actor Dhanush and Sara Ali Khan, and Bell Bottom in his kitty. The star will also be seen in director Farhad Samji's action-comedy Bachchan Pandey, which is touted to be a remake of the Tamil movie Jigarthanda. It stars Jacqueline Fernandez as the leading lady.
