Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut's film Emergency is now streaming on Netflix and has been ranked position one on the OTT platform. Ranaut received a positive response from the audience for her movie, many appreciating her work.
A fan recently took to their X account after watching the movie and wrote, "#EmergencyOnNetflix should go for the Oscars from #india. @KanganaTeam what a film !"
Resharing it on her Instagram account, Ranaut however stated that America can keep their "silly Oscar".
As reported by The Free Press Journal, in an Instagram story Ranaut wrote, "But America wouldn't like to acknowledge its real face, how they bully, suppress and arm twist developing nations, it's been exposed in #emergency. They can keep their silly Oscar. We have National Awards."
Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta also praised Kangana Ranaut's performance and direction of Emergency. "Today I watched EMERGENCY by @KanganaTeam. Very frankly I wasn't planning to as I had prejudged it. I am so glad that I was wrong. What a fantastic film by Kangana both performance & direction. Top Notch & World Class," he wrote on X.
Many other fans too claimed that the actress showuld receive an award for the film.
"I watched Emergency on Netflix today. An excellent movie, must watch. Acting of Kangana Ranaut is amazing, she should get a national award for acting and directing it," a user wrote on X.
"What an amazing acting by Kangana Ranaut in the movie Emergency!! In the entire movie it felt as if I was looking at the Indira Gandhi herself. What an acting!!! An actor truly deserving for an award," wrote a second.
The film, which courted controversy over its censor certificate and allegations that it misrepresents the Sikh community, was released in theatres on January 17 after several delays.
Also directed and produced by Ranaut, the film portrays the Emergency months and features the actor in the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Ranaut documents the 21 months of Emergency imposed in 1975 by the then prime minister in Emergency. The film also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Milind Soman and late actor Satish Kaushik.
