The complex plot of Sagar Kumar’s directorial debut, ‘Anamadheya Ashok Kumar’ revolves around three key events: the brutal murder of a lawyer, attack on a police commissioner, and the attempted assassination of a self-proclaimed journalist.
The film begins with a gripping scene, where the protagonist, played by Kishore Kumar, regains consciousness in a house owned by a lawyer, who is found brutally murdered.
Kishore, unnamed in the film, is detained for questioning to ascertain his involvement in the murder and attack on the commissioner.
The cat-and-mouse game between the detainee and the cop is the thrilling highlight of the film. The climax has parallels with the Malayalam movie ‘Drishyam’ (2013). It also draws parallels with ‘Edegarike’ (2012), where the cop and the detainee engage in a complex game of cat and mouse.
The subplots involving two pregnant women add a human element to the story.
The first half establishes the background. The second half offers powerful and evocative scenes. Dialogues are interpretative. A solid plot, gripping narrative, fast-paced screenplay and twists and turns hook audiences to their seats.
By presenting a murder mystery drama that unfolds over a single night, the movie raises thought-provoking questions about truth, falsehood, and individual perspectives.
Kishore and Harshil Koushik (as a cop) are impressive. The background score by Azad N enhances the overall tension and suspense.
The cinematography and editing are average. Scenes such as the detainee’s attempt to use a revolver while handcuffed and deleting a video from a camera strain credibility. The non-linear narrative in the climax may be difficult for viewers to follow.
