Srinidhi Bengaluru who experimented with a time-travel musical in his debut film Blink, is now exploring a found-footage vlogumentary in his second feature. Titled Video, the makers released the film’s poster on Friday.
“The Blair Witch Project of the ’90s showed how indie filmmakers, with a limited budget, can make a thrilling and rousing film. Although there have been many Hollywood films in this genre, and a few like 6-5=2, which worked really well here, the genre is less explored in India,” Srinidhi tells Deccan Herald.
After Blink, Srinidhi wanted to experiment with something on a minimal budget. That’s when he arrived on this idea.
Kannada actor Dheekshith Shetty who played the lead in Blink now turns producer with the film. He launched his production banner Dhee Cinemas.
Video initially began as an independent project. “I had a few investors with whom I had started working on it. Once while discussing the film with Dheekshith, he said he was interested in producing it,” shares Srinidhi.
Dheekshith will also play a cameo in the film.
The lead cast of the film includes a new set of actors — Bharath, Jeevan Shivakumar, Tejesh S M, Priya J Achar and Nalme Nachiyar. “The entire story is centred around these five characters,” says Srinidhi.
Talking about the film’s plot, he says, “The five characters are content creators with a YouTube channel called ‘Tharle Gang’. You see such YouTubers who come up with silly content like spending a night at a graveyard, just for likes and views. When their channel hits a milestone, they decide to take upon the challenge of visiting one of the most haunted places in India.”
The film has completed 80% of the shooting. They're yet to shoot the climax scene.
The film will release in the latter half of the year, according to Srinidhi.
Srinidhi retains most of his technical crew from Blink — music will be composed by Prasanna Kumar M S, and the film's cinematographer is Avinaasha Shastry.
