The iconic Indo-Japanese animated film, Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama, made a smashing debut at the Maha Kumbh mela in Prayagraj on January 22. The makers organised a special screening which was attended by over 200 school-children. At the screening these kids were introduced to the anime based on Valimiki’s Ramayana for the very first time.
This mega event coincided with the first anniversary of the ‘pran pratishtha’ ceremony of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The welcome note was delivered by Asim Arun, Minister of State Social Welfare and SC/ST Welfare of the Uttar Pradesh government.
This is one of the rare occasion where a film has made a pre-release debut at the Maha Kumbh festival. The event at the Maha Kumbh Mela aligns with the festival's profound spiritual significance. Maha Kumbh mela, held every 12 years at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati rivers, provided a divine platform to introduce the cinematic retelling of Lord Rama's journey.
Directed by Koichi Sasaki and Ram Mohan, Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama is a notable and internationally acclaimed work in cinematic history because of how it combines the richness of Indian storytelling traditions with fine Japanese artistry.
The film releases across cinemas in India on January 24th, 2025, in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and English languages. The movie will be distributed in Ultra HD 4K by Geek Pictures India, AA Films and Excel Entertainment.
