Ram Kapoor, the actor who recently caused a stir with controversial comments during the Mistry promotions, is again making headlines. While speaking to 'Humans of Bombay', the actor opened up about his financial journey, saying he’s built enough wealth to support four generations and admitted to buying a Rs 5 crore Lamborghini without thinking.
The actor, who rose to fame with his roles in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain and Kasam Se, is among the highest-paid television stars of his generation and was a prominent figure during the golden era of TV soap operas.
Ram Kapoor’s passion for luxury cars is well-known alongside his acting. His garage boasts a Mercedes-AMG G63, BMW X5, Porsche and Ferrari. He recently made headlines by becoming the first Indian to own a Lamborghini Urus valued at approximately Rs 5.21 crore.
In the interview, Ram Kapoor said, “I have always been crazy petrol-head. I have really been into cars and bikes. People who are into cars and bikes like me, and people who can afford it, they mostly have these collections. The difference is mine is talked about, while my friends who have better collections than me are not in the public eye, because they mostly belong to the corporate world, theirs are not talked about. So, if someone is a petrol-head like me, once you can afford it without thinking, you will have it because I don’t like spending money on anything except that.”
"Watches and cars are the only things I love, so people who can afford these watches they have fantastic watch collections. It's just that a lot of people who have it, they like to keep quiet about it. Even we want to keep quiet but unfortunately because I am in the public eye, the media gets to know about it. Yes, I do have a car collection. I have a Ferrari, a Porsche but the thing is we don't like to show it off," Ram added.
Ram Kapoor admitted that although he doesn’t personally showcase his luxury buys on social media, but somehow the news manages to leak out. "When I bought the Lamborghini, I had clearly told the dealer not to put press there. However, they had their in-house photographer. Now, the minute they uploaded it on their site, the media took it. How can I stop this? I am lucky that I can afford all this."
He further went on and talked about his fellow co-stars, Sakshi Tanwar and Ronit Roy. He said, "It is not that television actors make as much as film actors. But if you have a hit show which lasts for 7-8 years, and if you are at the top of television or making a lot of money, your monthly cheque is equal to your salary for 8 years. People like me, Sakshi and Ronit, if you have been on television for 20 years and are sensible, then you have made enough for at least 3-4 generations."
While Ram Kapoor enjoys investing in luxury cars and high-end watches, it’s his wife, Gautami Kapoor, who keeps his wardrobe stylish. “I wear brands, yes, but Gautami curates most of it. She always brings me up to keep up with the latest collections and trends,” he concluded.
With an estimated net worth of Rs 135 crore, Ram Kapoor is one of the richest names in Indian television. Along with a sprawling residence in Mumbai, he owns premium properties in Goa, Khandala, and a Rs 20 crore vacation home in Alibaug.
