What’s keeping you busy these days?

Following the success of Kafas, I am finalising a few other OTT scripts. Sports keeps me busy - I am the president of People’s Armwrestling Federation India. I am also a member of the FICCI Sports committee, so a lot of work to do!

What was the turning point in your career?

Definitely the music video ‘Chhui Mui Si Tum Lagti Ho’ and then of course Mohabbatein. These were the two big turning points in my career.

How was the experience of sharing screen space with Shahrukh Khan?

Unforgettable. Shahrukh Khan is an amazing person, and a charming, intelligent actor. Very gracious.

What has been your biggest learning?

The roles, and attitudes towards roles and characters, have completely changed. There was a time when dialogues were given on set. A heroine had no defined role - she could just be bubbly and innocent and sweet in all films! Luckily that is certainly not the case now in any Indian film. Roles are being written for women of all ages. I think it is a very exciting time for women today in Indian cinema. The roles I am listening to in new scripts have depth and character. The new young directors are a brilliant bunch – they have strong vision.

What is your beauty and fitness routine?

Staying active. Keep walking and eat in moderation. I eat very less roti, rice or bread. I eat mostly eggs, vegetables and meat. I also make sure I drink lots of water and have my water bottle with me everywhere since I travel aplenty. While travelling, I try to adhere to salads and less masala.

A habit you have picked up recently on sets…

I always have a book with me. It is an old habit.

How has working in south Indian cinema been?

Absolutely amazing! I love their cinematography and they work hard on your look and how to present a woman beautifully. For them, cinema is everything. They sleep, breathe, eat cinema and that is the reason south Indian films are super successful. I have had the good fortune of working with Pawan Kalyan, Balakrishna, Mohan Babu, NTR Jr and Rajamouli
