Premium Rush is all about the bikes and when you’re on them, you should “ride like hell.”
Bike messengers Wilee (Joseph Gordon Levitt), Vanessa (Diana Ramirez) and Manny (Wolé Parks) deliver parcels on bikes. This is their job and passion, and we are talking about serious business. They handle their bikes like they were born with it, charter routes so perfectly, evade traffic jams, fall, tumble over cars and still get back on their bikes with minimal injury.
Wilee believes that “brakes are death”, so he chooses to ride without them. He is so efficient that he uses the power of intuition to check other routes in case of a traffic jam and inevitably chooses the best path.
But the fun ride becomes a tad serious when Vanessa’s roommate entrusts Wilee with a suspicious envelope which has to be delivered to a stranger. The envelope incites the NYPD, particularly Officer Monday (Michael Shannon) behind his trail. What is in the envelope that is getting NYPD behind his heels? Can he deliver it within the expected deadline?
This movie is all about the joy of riding bikes on the street. The adventurous bikers are sure to shoot up your adrenaline. It also takes a dig at those men in suits with boring jobs in office enclosures. Although Premium Rush lacks a great plot, it is sure to appeal to teens and anyone who loves speed.
Like how Wilee puts it, “hesitation is what will kill you. Fixed gear, Steel frame, no brakes. Can’t stop. Don’t want to either.”
