There could not have been a better New Year’s gift to Sushil Kumar, winner of Rs 5 crore in the popular game show ''Kaun Banega Crorepati'' (KBC).

The man from Bihar’s Motihari district, who scripted a genuine rags-to-riches story in November last, has been approached by a British filmmaker for a documentary movie which will be shot in the United Kingdom.

Sushil, who is the brand ambassador of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), is currently shooting a promotional film for the government’s flagship scheme in Motihari.

He, however, is excited over the British offer. “I have been approached for the documentary which will be produced jointly by ‘2way traffic’ and ‘Sony Television, London’. The film is scheduled to be directed by Chris Tarrant and Keith Strachan,” said the KBC crorepati.

The documentary will showcase how a small-town boy from the interiors of Bihar went on to become the first person in India to win Rs 5 crore in KBC and how the victory has changed his life.

However, Sushil, despite his celebrity status, has shown no sign of airs while shooting for the MGNREGA documentary in the Naxal-infested Dhaka and Patahi areas of East Champaran. “We could not have got a better person than Sushil to shoot the documentary,” said Anjani Kumar, the director of the advertisement film, who was busy capturing the simplicity of day-to-day life of the KBC winner.

Sushil, along with his wife Seema, is looking forward to his UK visit. “I am excited as well as a bit nervous. But I am looking forward to the UK trip, and hope I live up to the expectations of the British film-makers,” said Sushil before winding up.
