L2 Empuraan, the much-anticipated sequel to Lucifer, hit the screens and caused an uproar across the country. While the movie received an outstanding response from the audience, a certain sect was unhappy and demanded a few omissions.
The movie then underwent 24 cuts. Despite that, the film’s essence remained intact, and it continues to be warmly received.
The audience not only praised Malayalam superstar Mohanlal’s performance but also hailed director-actor Prithviraj Sukumaran's work in this project.
L2: Empuraan which has been rewriting box office history for the Malayalam industry has recently surpassed the massive success of Manjummel Boys.
In just nine days, it soared past its predecessor to claim the title of the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever, with global earnings touching Rs 250 crore and still going strong in cinemas.
Touted as one of the most expensive films in Malayalam cinema, the movie sparked intense debate for its critique of right-wing politics and subtle references to the 2002 Gujarat riots.
Directed by actor Prithviraj Sukumaran - who also stars in the film - the trilogy features Malayalam legend Mohanlal in a pivotal role.
The film, written by Murali Gopy, also features Manju Warrier, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Jerome Flynn, and Eriq Ebouaney, among others.
