Several movie buffs took to Twitter on Thursday to remember actor Shashi Kapoor on his 83rd birth anniversary by sharing stills and dialogues from his movies.

Here are some of the tweets

Shashi was born on March 18, 1938, to Bollywood thespian Prithviraj Kapoor and his wife Ramsarni Kapoor. He acted in a few movies as a child artiste before making his big-screen debut as an adult with the 1961 release Dharmaputra, a hard-hitting drama revolving around the Partition of India.

The actor subsequently won the love of movie buffs with his classy screen presence and sophisticated dialogue delivery. Some of his most popular Hindi films include Deewar, Junoon, Trishul, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Kabhi Kabhie and Prem Kahaani. He impressed fans with his work in English-language movies like Heat and Dust, Siddhartha, Shakespeare in Love and Shakespeare Wallah, adding a new dimension to his career. The debonair hero played Amitabh Bachchan's younger brother in the previously-mentioned Deewar even though he was older than the 'Shahenshah'. The actioner attained cult status with his "mere paas maa hai'' dialogue clicking with the masses.

The classic was later remade in Tamil and Telugu as Thee and Magaadu with Sivaji actor Suman and Rama Krisha essaying Shashi's role from the original version.

He played Big B's elder brother in Silsila but did not get much screen time. He later wielded the microphone for Bachchan's 1991 release Ajooba, one of the most ambitious movies of his career. The biggie under-performed at the box office as it was loosely similar to Toofan, which had released two years earlier

Shashi eventually called time on his three-decade-long career with his final movie Side Streets releasing in the United Kingdom in 1999. The Padma Bhushan winner passed away in 2013, leaving fans heartbroken. His death was a big loss for the industry.
