Here’s our hero’s checklist for falling in love: There must be sparks at first sight, the girl should initiate the first kiss, and absolutely no fights.
In short, he is holding out for a lifetime supply of goosebumps with one of those 10-on-10 heroines he worships in films.
No wonder our boy in la-la land has to grow through several layers of maturity before he can take the real romantic plunge. Also, it takes him nearly the entire movie to stumble upon this pearl of wisdom — anger is not a trait, it’s a disease. Most of his flaws are blamed on his childhood trauma of watching his parents fight and scream their lungs out. Throw in some daddy issues, and you have got a textbook case for therapy, not a girlfriend.
What works in favour of this erratic rom-com is the charm of its leads. Rudra and Mithila Palkar bring a refreshing energy to this coming-of-age relationship drama, which begins on a varied note but takes every cliched turn on its way to the climax.
Well, if everything feels so filmi, it’s because of the man’s vocation — he is an aspiring filmmaker who treats life like one long movie reel.
Mithila brings clarity to her character, one of the few here with a moral compass intact, though she still wonders if there is a “use-me” sign taped to her forehead.
Mysskin and Vishnu Vishal show up as themselves, with cheeky nods to their past work.
Two individuals with troubled pasts, some toxic baggage and one oversized redemption arc, and you have got yourself a perfectly average watch.
