A prequel to the Shrek films, Puss In Boots is surprisingly refreshing and unlike this year’s lacklustre sequels to Kung Fu Panda and Cars. Puss (Antonio Banderas) is an outlaw with a chequered past. He tries to steal the magic beans in the possession of the thuggish duo, Jack and Jill. Unfortunately, his plans are thwarted by Kitty Softpaws (Salma Hayek). He discovers that she is with Humpty Dumpty (Zach Galifianakis), who Puss only knows too well from his younger days.

Puss, Kitty and Humpty Dumpty join forces, steal the beans in a superb Canyon chase from Jack and Jill, plant the beans, and get The Goose That Lays The Golden Eggs. Puss eventually has to decide if he is a hero or a thief, apart from his romance with Kitty.

Puss In Boots is undoubtedly Hollywood’s best animated feature this year. The script carefully avoids pop culture references, common in many animated films, and instead derives humour from the feline characters. This is what makes it great for not just kids, but adults, too.
