Nagashekhar’s ‘Sanju Weds Geetha’ (2011) was admired for its poignant love story, impressive performances, captivating visuals, and melodious music. Given its success, there were high expectations for its sequel when it was announced. However, the
two films differ in every aspect.

‘Sanju Weds Geetha II’ (‘SWG II’) revolves around Geetha, the daughter of an industrialist, who falls in love with Sanju, a salesperson. Despite her father’s opposition, they get married. Geetha is diagnosed with lung cancer and needs a lung transplant. The rest of the movie explores how Sanju navigates this challenging situation.

Except for cinematography and action choreography, the film falls short in all other areas. It suffers from a predictable plot, subpar screenplay, underwhelming performances, and flawed execution.

The director’s claim that the movie addresses the issues of silk farmers in Sidlaghatta appears to be a marketing gimmick. The film neither highlights the problem nor offers any solutions.

Furthermore, a fight scene and two songs seem forced, disrupting the flow of the movie.

Srinagar Kitty and Rachita Ram fail to deliver emotional performances as Sanju and Geetha respectively. Sadhu Kokila and Tabla Nani are underutilised, while Rangayana Raghu gets less than a minute of screen time.

It’s unfair to blame audiences for not watching Kannada movies when filmmakers prioritise exotic foreign locations and fashionable clothes over engaging narratives.
