Director Michel Hazanavicius’ “The Artist” celebrates the black and white silent era of cinema.

French film
The French film which has already won a number of international awards was a clear stand out for cine enthusiasts at IFFI. So was “Nader and Simin–A Separation,” Iranian director Asghar Farhadi’s seamless and fast-paced contemporary film which revolves around a young couple’s strained relationship.

Farhadi’s film had won the Golden Bear at the Berlin festival 2011 and is a top contender for the lead prize at IFFI as well.

The festival comes to an end on Saturday with French director Luc Besson’s “The Lady.”  Based on the extraordinary life of Aung San Suu Kyi, the film premiered in France this week and gets its Indian opening at the IFFI.

Michelle Yeoh
Starring Michelle Yeoh who bears an uncanny resemblance to the Burmese leader, “The Lady” got mixed responses at the media preview.  Yeoh, meanwhile, arrived in Goa to promote the film. Tamil film star Suriya will take part in the closing ceremony of the film festival.

‘3 Idiots’ headed to China
Director Vidhu Vinod Chopra says 900 prints of his box-office hit ‘3 Idiots’  are being dispatched to China and his film is doing better in Hong Kong than most Hollywood blockbusters, reports DHNS from Panaji.
